It’s been a week of erratic emotions, challenges that seemed impossible to scale and a hefty dose of pain. It’s also been a week filled with restoration, decision-making, reckoning with the future … and lilacs. Today, my hand was set free from its bondage—no more metal splint and miles of tape. It’s very tender and I feel the limitations still in my range of movement. But pain is an impeccable guide and so I respect it. Yesterday, I lifted a camera for the first time since my accident. It was tricky as my encased thumb was useless and my range of motion limited. But it felt good (comforting, actually) to take some photos. The chance to capture the delicacy of fleeting lilacs couldn’t have been missed. Aren’t we all bandits in some way when it comes to beauty? Yesterday’s stealth mission to “rescue” overhanging blooms from towering lilac bushes in an open field was successful with the help of a friend and her two good hands. She came, she pinched, she carried. What more could you ask for in a flower-loving friend? Thank you, Heather. Their scent is intoxicating …
