silence

Before running errands yesterday, I ventured down to the river for a walk. The sidewalks in town have all but disappeared, we’re so heavily blanketed in snow. I moved knee-deep through the park, looking for signs of familiar paths now buried. No one else was there and mine were the first footprints to disturb the new-fallen snow. The river lay still and blue-grey clouds tumbled across the lonesome sky. Silence enveloped the park. I cherished the quiet, steeped in a pocket of time where responsibilities and tangled thoughts became suspended. Only the cold nudged me back on task as slivers of sunlight began to fade.

Welcome to February, friends. We’ve made it to the far side of winter! I saw potted primroses in the grocery store. A tender mercy if ever there was one …
